Novalac Allergy infant (rice) formula shortage

There is another shortage of a specialised formula. The notice below was sent by the company. If your child is on Novalac Allergy infant and you have run out/about to run out, then it is important you speak with your Allergist to discuss other formula options that would be best suited to your child’s needs.

On behalf of Bayer Australia Ltd (Bayer), I wish to advise that due to an unprecedented demand we are experiencing a temporary shortage of Novalac Allergy infant formula. This will result in very limited (to no) supply of Novalac Allergy currently available from pharmacies across Australia. We understand that babies requiring Novalac Allergy are a vulnerable patient group, and we continue to work hard to increase the supply of Novalac Allergy to meet the increasing demand of our local requirements.
Novalac Allergy has been specially formulated for babies with a confirmed cow’s milk protein allergy or who are unable to tolerate cow’s milk formula. It is available without a prescription and is only available through pharmacies. Bayer offers a range of specially-developed infant formula under the Novalac range, however it is important to note that only Novalac Allergy is suitable for use in children diagnosed with cow’s milk protein allergy.
There are alternative formulas suitable for infants with cow’s milk protein allergy. Some of these products will require a prescription. Should the parent/carer have any concerns about what to feed their baby or infant, they should speak to their pharmacist or doctor.
I would like to apologise for any concerns this raises. Please do not hesitate to contact Bayer’s Medical Information Team on 1800 008 757 should you have any questions.
